Ever feel like you've been hit by a truck?

OK, me too - only I was.....Yesterday, I was walking through our parking lot at the Police Department and *poof* out of what seemed like nowhere, I was picking myself up off the concrete. As I walking, a GMC or Suburban, or something like that, backed out of his parking place and knocked me on my keester.....I think I actually saw stars. I was talking to another employee on the phone one minute, and the next, I was flying sideways.

Needless to say, I had to go to the ER. And today I feel like I've been hit by a truck! Everything hurts; my neck, my hip, my back, my elbows, my port and boobs... geesh.... I still can't believe it, it was just so surreal.

Anyway, I had immediate support from the Department, Fire/EMS, and the ER and I just wanted to publicly thank everyone for rushing to my aid. Personally, I'm kind of like a cat that when injured, and not wanting attention, I prefer to flee to lick my wounds, but thanks to everyone who was there, I obtained immediate medical care and I'm very, very grateful. So, thank you MPD and MFD, as always, you go above and beyond to help those in need.

  1. GEEZ....POOR THING. WAS THE DRIVER AT LEAST VERY HANDSOME AND AVAILABLE!! :) Poor thing, nothing like kicking a girl when she's down. As usual you will rebound nicely. Hang in there girlfriend..... My thoughts and prayers are with you..I add a few for your fellow workers that take such good care of all of us. Hope you feel better soon.

  2. Donna - I got that beautiful basket today - thank you so much. It's going to set on my coffee table so I can admire it.

As for the driver, not a chance, he had to be late 60's, early 70's! An elderly friend of mine said he was trying to hit on me, not hit me!!! lol

  5. Arla,
It's been a few days since I have been on.My results come back and I kind had that lump in the pit of my stomach and needed a few days to get it back together. I came on to post my update and read what I had missed of your blogs, because you always inspire and remind me to focus on the good and not the bad " YOU ARE SUCH AN INCREDIBLE WOMAN" I just wished you lived in Va. It sure would be wonderful to have someone who is going through this close to me. Anyway enough of my rambling, I am sorry to hear about your accident. You are in my thoughts and prayers for a speedy recovery. GOD bless you my friend.

  6. I like what the driver said..."hit on you, not hit you". Thank God and the MPD & MFD who were right there. Kudos to them..and even more kudo's to you. My gosh, the things that happen when you least need it..of course that isn't something you ever need. My friend Kris who is so very ill who lives in VA, same thing happened to her. She had just started getting out of the house after a surgery and low and behold, she was hit by a car at a gas station.

I just thank God that you are okay, aside from feeling like you've been hit by a truck and that saying isn't must a metaphor, but literally. Brings the meaning "kick 'em while their down" to an actual real event, but replace the "kick" to "hit". I know it wasn't an intentional thing. I really look at you Arla as a mentor and someone that I hope I can be like throughout the rest of my life. You are such a good, kind and very strong person and I love you and have always admired you.

I'd like to get a "fight like a girl" shirt? Where can you get them? Also I wanted to tell you, I had Phillip make a vinyl sticker for me to put on my jeep, it's a pink ribbon and in silver it says "For Arla"...I'll take a picture of it and email it to you. I love you very much and I really want to plan a trip of coming to see you when your life has setteled and you feel up for spend the night company. But remember, if you need me...and I know you have plenty of people there for you..but if you need me all you have to do is tell me and I'm on the next plane out of bama headed your way.

    I love you,
    Kellie

  7. Wow - thank you ladies. I'll be honest, when I got home from the hospital, and the adrenalin rush stopped, I really did want to sit down and have a good old-fashioned cry. But seeing I already had a headache, I thought that might not make for good company. What I did do was run a warm bath, put some rose smelling bubble bath in, and just sit for awhile remembering how lucky I really am - without getting my new port area wet.

The Fight Like A Girl t-shirts are around $16 and can be purchased via www. signifypink.com They have a vast array of products. I chose them because the money they make actually goes back into helping cancer patients - they are not just a money maker.

I've also decided to start my own little bucket list....just in case...lol. I can't tell you how much it means to me that you are all out here (there) - just knowing that brings me great comfort. Jackie, chin up, shoulders back, the best we can do is muddle through this great challenge with a little dignity, and if we can, some grace and hope. I know that for me, when I get fed up with it all, I am reminded what my knees are for.

Each of you will have a special place in my book - that's tops on my bucket list, just so you know... ;) love to all.
